The Safford vs. Redding case was interesting cause it is hard to pick a side to agree with. In my opinion, both were in the wrong. However, the principal, the defendant, did not deserve to walk away from this case un punished. The principal clearly violated the young girl's 4th amendment. From the beginning he should have called her parents and talked to them about his suspicion of the student carrying drugs and other contraband. If not her parents then he should have contacted the police and allowed them to handle it. It was crossing a very clear line when the principal sent the girl to go to the nurse to get stripped searched. Automatically he should have thought that the middle of the school day was not necessary nor the appropriate time to perform such a search. I believe that the principal should have been fired for not thinking before his actions. I understand that he was looking out for the protection of other students, but he did not handle the situation in an appropriate way. He violated poor Savanna's 4th amendment and for that he deserved to be punished.
