How did the Declaration of Independence fail to deliver its promises to all people?
The Declaration of Independence had its interests and conflicts. In 1776, this extraordinary document written by Thomas Jefferson and signed by 56 elite individuals came about the world. It had some assertion behind it along with certain rights and beliefs. It included how we have unalienable rights, life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Also famously known “All men are created equal.” The world we live in today would not have come about without this exemplifying document. Where it was at a loss was with the people. Cause back then i would have been just as excited as everyone else. Where now we can look at it from a point where no one else could back then.
Where the Declaration failed was in its promises to the people. It was not intended to do resolve equality issues. It was as much to get the support of the colonists for revolution as to notify the Crown that it might just as well go along with our declared independence because there was no turning back. This is just as well because the definition of what constitutes equality then is far different than it is today. There is a long list of examples to back this up. For example slave ownership was still legal and would remain so for the next 88 years. Another example is that property owning males were the only ones allowed to vote. It set out to show what the United States of America was going to be. It was not there to explain equality and inequality issues. I feel that what was completed was right and that in everything any one person or county does it has to have some failure first.
