In this illustration there are 15 men pointing to the man to their right and answering the question which is who stole the people's money? Each person is indirectly answering it by saying it is the person next to them when in reality it is Tammany Hall. Twas him is what the people of born American citizenship said about Tammany Hall. He is in the ring because he is a rich man who used bribery to influence patronage of immigrants. Patronage is the encouragement and support given from one person to another. Tammany Hall bribed immigrants with money and houses for their vote and loyalty. The illustrator is vague and discrete but expresses his feelings for Tammany Hall. The people are showing discontent to each other and to Tammany Hall because he was part of the people. However, he was more opulent than most people and did not hesitate to spend for what he needed rather than earning it himself. The illustrator became enraged with the knowledge of how Tammany spent his wealth that did not aide the country's habitants but the immigrants instead.
