This political cartoon is showing the bosses of the political machine, Tammany Hall. They are standing in a ring all pointing at each other. The question the cartoon is posing is: who stole the people’s money? They are all pointing at the person next to themselves as to blame them. The larger the person, the more prominent a figure they were in this political machine. The illustrator feels that Tammany Hall was a corrupt system that made people turn their backs on other people. They are all blaming each other for stealing the people’s money, but the illustrator says it “twas him.” It was an overpowering political machine that took people’s money and turned people against one another.
