In the cartoon, there is a picture of 15 people in a circle from the political machine, Tammany Hall. The picture shows each person answering a question by pointing to the person next to them. The question being asked is “who stole the people’s money” and each person is avoiding the question by passing it on to the next person. The picture also has ‘Twas Him written in the corner which shows that they will not answer the question directly. On the floor it also says “Tammany Ring” which represents the cycle of the political machine. It also seems as if the people are lined up in relation to size which could represent the flow going from least important to most important. The person standing all the way to the left could resemble the leader of the political machine and then he blames it back to the least important person. This ongoing cycle gives them the ability to get away with illegal actions. The people standing in the back also have writing on their backs which could represent their place in office but I can’t determine exactly what it says.
