The Declaration of Independence is one of, if not the most well known document ever written. It was one of the first times people stood up for what they believed in and took a stand. Our founding fathers gathered in Philadelphia and created this declaration that stated we would become our own nation and break away from Britain. Thomas Jefferson used the well-remembered line that everyone deserved a chance to obtain "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.". The original saying was "Life, liberty, and the right to property", but this was altered because they did not want people to believe it was their right to own property without earning it. It is easy to say that the Declaration did not fufill its promises. Women, Blacks, and basically any group aside from white protestent men, were not given the same rights. These groups were clearly not given an equal shot at the same life, the same liberties, and far from the same happiness. This is diffuclt.
