The African Americans goal during the Harlem Renaissance was to end segregation. All they wanted was to have equality in America and be able to do the same things the whites can. Things like Jim Crow Laws and the Ku Klux Klan made it very hard for them to make process. However, the African Americans moved to the North into all of the cities to protest and take jobs and start their lives.
The Civil Rights Movement happened in the 1950s because there was still so much racism and segregation was very tough to beat. The people who would fight it would be lynched and there were no African Americans in government until later on so they had no voice or representation. Eventually, enough would be enough for these people and they would finally desegregate America.
