The Declaration of Independence was created as an outcome to the Boston Tea Party and the First Continental Congress, which was said to boycott British goods. The Second Continental Congress actually wrote the Declaration on Independence, but many people argue about how it did not deliver its promises to all of the people. The Declaration states that all men are created equal. There is a debate about this because women are not mentioned in the Declaration at all and looking at society today women have just the same amount of rights as men. During the time 1770s women did not have as many rights though, but it is not fair to women to not have even been mentioned in this document. Not only were women not mentioned, but also African Americans were not brought up in this document. They worked harder than most white Americans during this time and although this was the time of slavery, not mentioning them is not giving equality to all men.
To continue, the Declaration stated that the government gets the right to rule from the people. During this time and still to today the people vote for who they want their government to be, but not enough of what the people have to say is heard. For example, when voting for a president, the people cast their votes, but there are only a certain number of votes cast to the over all count by number of men or women assigned to ones state. This is also how we can change our government. But again looking at this, one cannot state their opinion and have people agree and then within the next day have a new president. Over a long period of time the government can be changed, but other decisions in which can negatively affect the people, have already been made.
