The major goal of the Harlem Renaissance was to create a country that allowed both blacks and whites to be equal. After the African Americans migrated from the South to the Northeast and the West, they all wanted to start their lives over and create a "new" home for themselves. They would need the support of whites to become equal though. One way African American's merged together with whites was by music, plays and literature. They would all perform in the same theatre's displaying their talents to everyone. The Civil Right's Movement did not happen until the 1950s-1960s is because they did not have the people to stand up for themselves and create a huge deal. They all were content of being free from slavery in the South, and they loved that they could start their new life with a clean slate. I believe everyone was caught up in the moment and there wasn't that one person like Martin Luther King Jr. that could bring everyone together. They all heard mixed emotions of the people, including some people saying that they should go back to Africa.
