The goals of african americans durning the harlem renaissance was to become integrated with white people, and to final be seen as equal. African Americans tried to do whatever they could to get out of working unpaid jobs in mines, factories, and plantations. African-Americans saw a better standard of living and relief from the institutionalized racism in the South.
The civil rights movement wouldn't start until the 1950's and 1960's because the Brown vs. the board of ed was the spark of the civil rights movement. The Supreme court ruled that desegregation in public schools was unconstitutional.
