The Declaration of Independence failed to account for the slaves in the country at the time. The slaves were considered property and were not even considered to be human beings. The Declaration states that all men are created equal. However, even though the slaves were men breathing the same air as the white men that owned them, they did not have the right to that liberty. Also, all of the other liberties mentioned in the Declaration did not apply to the African Americans.
They did not receive the unalienable rights for white men. It is evident that the rights are solidified as unalienable. This means that they are final and conclusive which potentially meant that African Americans would not ever have these rights. Furthermore, the pursuit of happiness was not available for slaves. They did not have the chance to prosper and receive their very own property. Instead, they were expected to work on other men's "pursuit of happiness" until they died or were physically incapable of which then they would be killed. They ultimately did not have a life. Their life was decided for them and did not have the rights the other men had.
